Operating Status Summary

Pool Activities Being offered

The pool is operating at cost and is providing fee based reservations for lap swimming, water aerobics and single household deep end and shallow end swimming for families. All reservations for activities are managed through our pool management software (see login link in the page navigation menu).

Note for all swim reservations and refunds

We now have swim lanes, diving well, shallow water area, and water aerobics that you can sign up for. Unfortunately, since we are not charging full membership fees, all these opportunities are funded by the participants who sign up; therefore, if they are cancelled due to weather or an accident in the pool, we still have the expense of life guards, instructors, and other operations. As a result, we are not able to refund the money to participants if the pool is closed during their respective time slot (this includes the diving well and the shallow pool reservations). We consider it a donation to the pool.

Additional Rules for the Pool

  1. Use of the pool will be for 50 minutes (from the top of the hour until 50 minutes after the hour).
  2. Swimmers will need to sign a waiver acknowledging the additional rules and risks through their pool account.
  3. Swimmers will need to sign up and pay for their time slots ahead of time using the pool management software (see “login” on the page navigation menu).
  4. In addition, the pool needs to be open for a minimum of 2 consecutive hours (to ensure guard coverage); therefore, we need 6 swimmers to sign up for each of these time slots (for example: 6 swimmers for 6:00 and 6 swimmers for 7:00 for a total of 12 swimmers for this 2-hour increment from 6:00 – 8:00).
  5. Any time slot that does not meet this minimum capacity requirements will be canceled ahead of time and swimmers will be notified in advance.
  6. The administrative burden to manage refunds is significant and all no-shows or cancellations due to inclement weather are considered a donation to the pool operation.
  7. Since the session is only 50 minutes, we strongly encourage you to use your bathroom at home before you come to the pool. If you need to use the restroom at the pool, the family restroom will be available for use (in which the guard will clean after each use).
  8. You will need to shower at home prior to coming to the pool as the normal Men and Women’s restrooms will be closed.
  9. You will enter the pool through the gate near the snack bar and go directly to your lane.
  10. You will exit the pool through the gate near the Party Area.
  11. Swimmers are to wear masks while they enter and exit the pool (obviously, not while they are swimming).
  12. All swimmers are expected to practice social distancing at all times.
  13. No furniture will be available for use except what is noted below for each type of reservation.
  14. The timing clock will be on display, but no personal equipment will be provided.  Each swimmer is required to bring their own equipment including cap, goggles, kickboards, swim floats, etc.
  15. At 50 minutes after the hour (regardless of what time you showed up to swim), you will need to exit the pool and then exit through the gate before the next hour, to allow for the next group of lap swimmers.
  16. If you or anyone in your household test positive for COVID-19, please contact your health care provider and then email covid19@mosbywoodspool.com to let us know. We will keep personal information safe, but we need to let those that were at the pool know. Note: this rule applies for all staff at the pool as well.

Annual Dues

Annual dues are not being charged during phase 1 and phase 2 of the Virginia reopening plan for COVID-19. Annual dues will be pro-rated once we are allowed to open the pool to the general membership. During phase 1 and 2, your membership dues are not being used. We hope this will occur in phase 3 of the Virginia reopening plan, but is conditional upon the date (whenever the restrictions are lifted) and the conditions set by the Fairfax County Health Department.

Costs

All our phase 1 and phase 2 activities are fee based, and are meant to cover the basic operating costs of the pool such as lifeguards, utilities, trash pickup, etc. Because we are charging the absolute minimum to cover our bottom line costs, all activities are non-refundable after we have set the weekly schedule for the lifeguards.

The lifeguard schedules are set every Saturday morning, therefore we close refunds at on Friday at 11:45PM for the week following (Monday to Sunday). For example, all fees are non-refundable on 12 June @11:45PM for any reservations on Monday June 15 to Sunday June 21.

Cancellations

  • (non-refundable) If the pool shuts down the pool because of weather, almost always on the day of the reservation. Pool closures due to weather are announced on our Twitter page @MWPool
  • (refundable) If you change or cancel your reservation the Friday before the week (Monday-Sunday) of your reservation.
  • (refundable) If the pool management (lifeguard supervisor) or pool board cancel the activity due to insufficient participation (to cover the minimum operating costs).
  • (refundable) The pool changes a policy/rule which directly effects your upcoming (this week) reservation for a lap swim, dive pool, or shallow end.
